As a lifelong movie geek, I love working with actors to craft powerful performances and telling big, dramatic stories. I studied theater in college and I have written a few scripts and plays myself, and I've had the privilege to work with a number of the best writers in film and television. I love spending time in the weeds on story: defining genre, building worlds, creating tension, and mining for comedy.
As a passionate photographer, I find myself always curious about photographic technique, technology, and design. I’ve been given opportunities to photograph people and projects that required great care and preparation, like features and scripted series, as well as more documentary-style projects that can only be shot spontaneously, with micro budgets, on-the-fly, and I’ve found great satisfaction in both styles.
I'm interested in capturing emotion, ambiance, fleeting but memorable moments. The challenge for anyone swimming in today's ocean of images is: how do you use images to tell a story. That's the task I put in front of myself every time I pick up a camera.
And I also think of myself as a digital native with a deep understanding of social media platforms and strategy for the modern audience. An "influencer" once told me that social media was all about the idea that “you don’t have to be an expert in something before you just start doing it.” And I’ve carried that with me for years. I’m still figuring it all out, how to differentiate myself and my content, and generally, I'm having a hell of a time while I do it.
